The Chicago Cubs today recalled outfielder JERRY HAIRSTON from his rehab assignment and reinstated him to the active list. In a corresponding roster move, outfielder MATT MURTON was optioned to Iowa (AAA).
In five games for Iowa, Hairston batted .318 (7-22) with 1 triple, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. The outfielder was placed on the 15-day disabled list August 4 with a left elbow medial ligament injury.
Murton, 23, batted .339 with 1 home run and 4 RBI in his first 25 games for the Cubs. He began the season at West Tenn (AA), where he batted .342 (107-313) with 8 homers. In addition, the outfielder had 29 extra-base hits, 46 RBI and 18 stolen bases.
