Sing's pair of homers leads Cubs to 'W'

Cubs at the plate: The Cubs erupted in a five-run third inning, with back-to-back solo homers by Aramis Ramirez and Brandon Sing starting things off. Todd Walker added two of his three RBIs for the game with a double and Dennis Anderson singled in a run. Sing added another homer, a two-run shot off Dave Burba, in the fourth. Jacque Jones was 3-for-3.

Mariners at the plate: Raul Ibanez's first hit of the spring was an opposite-field solo homer off Cubs starter Glendon Rusch in the first inning. Greg Dobbs hit two doubles and Jeremy Reed went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Shin-Soo Choo tripled home a run in the fourth inning.

Cubs on the mound: Rusch gave up one run on three hits in two innings, with one strikeout. Todd Wellemeyer struggled, giving up five runs on eight hits in two innings.

Mariners on the mound: Jamie Moyer made his first start of the spring and gave up one run on four hits in two innings. Julio Mateo gave up five runs on six hits -- including two homers -- in one inning. Burba gave up six runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings. Jeff Harris pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth.

Cactus League records: Cubs 2-0; Mariners 0-1-1

Up next: The Mariners host the Padres on Saturday at Peoria Stadium at 1:05 p.m. MT. Right-hander Jesse Foppert makes the start, with Clint Nageotte, Scott Atchison, Emiliano Fruto and Yorman Bazardo set for duty. The Mariners also will play a "B" game at 9:30 a.m. against the Padres, with Rich Dorman, Chris Jaile and Lindsay Gulin pitching in that game. The Cubs will play the San Francisco Giants at Scottsdale Stadium, with right-hander Jerome Williams making the start.
