White Sox at the plate: Jim Thome went 4-for-5, including two solo homers. He connected off Greg Maddux in the sixth, whom Thome is 2-for-16 lifetime against in the regular season. Scott Podsednik went 2-for-2 with a double and scored a run.

Cubs at the plate: Henry Blanco had two hits, including an RBI double, and stole a base. Neifi Perez homered with two out in the seventh. The game was played in front of a HoHoKam Park record crowd of 12,894.

White Sox on the mound: Starter Mark Buehrle gave up two runs on four hits over seven innings and struck out one.

Cubs on the mound: Maddux gave up three runs on nine hits over six innings and struck out two. His next outing will be one of the Cubs' exhibition games Friday or Saturday in his home of Las Vegas.

Cactus League records: White Sox 7-18-1; Cubs 13-11-2.

Up next: The White Sox play the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, with Javier Vazquez scheduled to start. The Cubs travel to Peoria to face the Seattle Mariners, and left-hander Glendon Rusch is slated to start.
