Gorzelanny, who was scheduled to start next Tuesday, will be skipped at least one turn. The problem is the swelling on the palm of his left hand. His return will be reassessed in the coming days as the swelling subsides.
He was hit on his left hand by a line drive by Pittsburgh's Jose Tabata on Wednesday in the third inning.
Carlos Silva could sub for Gorzelanny next week. Silva made his second rehab start Wednesday for Class A Peoria and threw 78 pitches. He came out of his last start for the Cubs on Aug. 1 because of an abnormal heart rate but underwent a procedure Aug. 9 to correct that.
