ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have traded designated hitter Phil Nevin to the Chicago Cubs for infielder Jerry Hairston Jr.
The Rangers are also including cash in the deal. An announcement is expected after the Rangers game with the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.
Nevin is hitting .216 with nine home runs and 31 RBIs and had lost his designated hitter job to rookie Jason Botts. Hairston is hitting .206 for the Cubs.
The Rangers acquired Nevin last July 30 from the Padres for pitcher Chan Ho Park.
