Cubs announce spring report date

CHICAGO -- New Cubs manager Lou Piniella will get his first look at pitchers and catchers on Feb. 14, when they report to Spring Training camp in Mesa, Ariz.

The first workout will be held on Feb. 15 at Fitch Park. Position players will report on Feb. 19, and the first full-squad workout will be held on Feb. 20.

The Cubs are Piniella's fifth team, and the 63-year-old has totaled 1,519 career wins, fourth most among active managers.

The Cubs' Spring Training exhibition schedule begins on March 1 against the San Francisco Giants at HoHoKam Park.

This will be the Cubs' 29th consecutive season in Mesa, and their 11th at the new HoHoKam/Fitch Park facilities.
