Padres at the plate: Kevin Kouzmanoff doubled and scored on Paul McAnulty's single in the second, and also hit his first spring homer with two outs in the sixth. Will Venable added an RBI double in the seventh, and scored on Craig Stansberry's single.

Cubs at the plate: The Cubs scored four runs with two outs in the third on Michael Barrett's two-run single, and RBI singles by Buck Coats and Tomas Perez. Aramis Ramirez drove in four runs, hitting a two-run double in the fourth and a two-run homer, his first, in the fifth.

Padres on the mound: Starter Jake Peavy gave up four runs on five hits and two walks over 2 2/3 innings while striking out three.

Cubs on the mound: Rich Hill gave up one run on four hits over three innings and struck out three in his second spring outing. Bob Howry made his fourth spring appearance, and had a perfect 1-2-3 inning.

Cactus League records: Padres 3-5; Cubs 5-3-1

Up next: The Padres play host to the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. Chris Young is slated to make his third start this spring for San Diego. The Cubs travel to Surprise, Ariz., to face the Kansas City Royals. Left-hander Ted Lilly is scheduled to make his first start and second appearance this spring, while Mark Prior will follow him. This will also be Prior's second outing.
