Cubs at the plate: Ryan Theriot singled and stole second. Cesar Izturis slashed an infield single.

Angels at the plate: Hot-hitting Howie Kendrick banged three singles against Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano, scoring twice and driving home a run, and Casey Kotchman doubled and singled, scoring twice. Chone Figgins hit a three-run triple in the second following singles by Kotchman, Kendrick and DH Brandon Wood against Zambrano.

Cubs on the mound: Zambrano went 5 2/3 innings, surrendering nine hits and four runs while striking out four and hitting one batter. Scott Eyre retired Figgins to leave two runners stranded and worked a scoreless seventh, giving up one hit.

Angels on the mound: John Lackey was dominant in six innings, holding the Cubs to two singles while striking out five men and walking none. He has 15 strikeouts and one walk in 12 1/3 spring innings. Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect seventh, striking out one, and Darren Oliver pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth.

Cactus League records: Cubs 8-9; Angels 13-7.

Up next: The Cubs will host the Mariners on Monday at 3:05 p.m. CT in Mesa. Right-hander Wade Miller will make his fourth spring appearance, facing left-hander Ryan Feierabend. In a split-squad game at Maryvale against Milwaukee, right-hander Sean Gallagher will make his fourth spring outing, taking on right-hander Yovani Gillardo. The Angels are idle on Monday. They return to action in Peoria on Tuesday night at 9:05, when Ervin Santana will make his fifth Cactus League appearance, facing Padres right-hander Chris Young.
