Giants at the plate: Kevin Frandsen tripled and scored on a wild pitch by Carlos Zambrano in the second. Bengie Molina hit an RBI double with two outs in the eighth off Bob Howry.

Cubs at the plate: Mark DeRosa hit an RBI single with one out in the second, and Ronny Cedeno followed with a three-run homer. Derrek Lee went 1-for-4, including a RBI double in the fourth, and was batting .490. Aramis Ramirez added his fourth homer with two outs in the seventh.

Giants on the mound: Left-hander Noah Lowry gave up five runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings while striking out two.

Cubs on the mound: Zambrano, the Cubs' Opening Day starter, gave up one run on four hits and one walk over six innings while striking out five. Kerry Wood threw nine pitches in one inning, eight for strikes, in his first appearance since March 11.

Cactus League records: Giants 12-13; Cubs 12-11-1.

Up next: The two teams will square off again Saturday but this time on the Giants' home turf in Scottsdale. Barry Zito will make his fifth start for San Francisco, while Wade Miller will make his fifth start for the Cubs. Miller is fighting for the fifth starter spot, and in 12 1/3 innings so far, he's given up seven earned runs on 19 hits and four walks. Zito has served up seven earned runs on 13 hits and five walks over 13 innings this spring.
