DeRosa has appeared in 12 games, getting sidetracked by a variety of things. He joked Wednesday that this has been the worst month of his life.
"First, I have heart surgery," said DeRosa, who underwent a procedure in Chicago to correct an irregular heartbeat. "Then, I get the flu. Now I have sinusitis."
Wait, there's more.
"A rock hit my wife's windshield, busted," he said. "We're packing yesterday, and she spills a bottle of water on my computer. Fried. I'm hitting $1.90. I need to leave this city."
He's actually batting .194. DeRosa may want to keep a low profile when the team plays in Las Vegas this weekend. It doesn't sound as if luck is on his side.
"It's going to be a good year, that's all I know," DeRosa said. "I'm getting it all out of the way."
His friend, Michael Johns, is still alive in the American Idol competition, and sang "We are the Champions" by Queen on Tuesday's show.
"I thought it was the perfect song," DeRosa said of the singer's choice. "It was time for him to sing a song that everyone knew -- both the people at home and the audience could rally around him and be a part of. He had a big moment last night. He's definitely in the running to win this thing."
