Lilly, Lee visit injured boy in hospital

CHICAGO -- Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly and first baseman Derrek Lee visited Saturday with 7-year-old Dominic DiAngi of Frankfort, Ill., who was hit on the head by a foul ball off Lilly's bat at Wrigley Field.

The youngster was hit in the second inning Thursday at Wrigley Field. The boy was hospitalized at Children's Memorial Hospital, recovering from a fractured skull and swelling around his brain.

On Saturday, the Cubs sent a care package to Dominic, loaded with autographed items.

"He was out of the coma and doing a lot better," Lilly said Sunday. "His parents seemed pretty optimistic, and I think he'll be OK."

Dominic is a huge Cubs fan, and Lilly was asked if the boy recognized two of his heroes during their visit.

"I think so -- it was hard to tell because he'd just woken up," Lilly said. "He was still kind of groggy. I think he recognized Derrek and I. He's been through a lot in the last few days. Hopefully, we cheered him up a little bit."
