Ramirez held out of starting lineup

MIAMI -- Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez did not start Friday against the Florida Marlins to give his sore left hip another day to heal, but was available to pinch-hit, manager Lou Piniella said.

Ramirez bruised his left hip when he slid home Thursday in the fifth inning against the Atlanta Braves. Piniella said he didn't ask Ramirez whether he could play.

"The trainer said it was sore, and I left it at that," Piniella said.

Mark DeRosa started at third base Friday for the ninth time this season. Piniella also gave Kosuke Fukudome the day off Friday, but the Japanese outfielder will be back on Saturday when the Cubs will overload the lineup with left-handed hitters. Daryle Ward was expected to start at first and Mike Fontenot at second on Saturday against Florida right-hander Anibal Sanchez.
