Lee struck out to end the fifth on an awkward swing, and then hunched over. Athletic trainer Mark O'Neal went out to talk to the first baseman, but Lee stayed in the game on defense for a half-inning and was then pulled in favor of Daryle Ward.
"He's got spasms," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said. "We took him out and put some heat on him to see if we can get him ready for [Sunday]."
Lee had hit an RBI single in the fourth inning for the Cubs, and was batting .290 for the season. In May 2007, Lee missed five games because of neck spasms.
