With one out in the Chicago sixth, Kalish hit a grounder to Cards third baseman Matt Carpenter and was called out by first-base umpire Adrian Johnson. Renteria challenged the call, saying Kalish beat the throw, and after a review, the call was overturned, and Kalish was safe on a throwing error by Carpenter.
The Cubs now have won seven of 14 replay challenges.
In the St. Louis seventh, the Cardinals challenged another call by Johnson, who called Carpenter out at first after hitting a ground ball that Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney knocked down. The replay showed Carpenter was safe, and he was credited with a base hit.
