Cubs land Minors righty Mota from Nats

|
CHICAGO -- The Cubs made a trade Friday, but not the much-publicized one talked about all week at the Winter Meetings.

Chicago acquired Minor League right-handed pitcher Arismendy Mota from Washington for cash considerations. Mota was selected by the Nationals with the first pick of the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 Draft on Thursday in Indianapolis from the White Sox organization.

Mota, 22, was 7-2 with a 1.81 ERA in 16 games (15 starts) with the White Sox Dominican Summer League team. He struck out 80 over 89 2/3 innings.

Because Mota was taken in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 Draft, not the Major League phase, he did not need to be added to the Cubs' 40-man roster, which stands at 38 players.

On Thursday, the Cubs selected right-hander Michael Parisi from the St. Louis Cardinals in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft.
