Manager Rick Renteria said before Thursday's series finale against the Mets that he was unsure whether Baker would be available to pinch-hit if needed.
Baker had only assumed starting catching duties on Tuesday after Welington Castillo was placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his rib cage.
Eli Whiteside, who was called up from Triple-A Iowa when Castillo went on the DL, will take over catching duties until Baker is able to return.
"Eli is very polished, a very good professional," Renteria said. "In terms of catching, I don't think that you'll find a whole lot of people who would say anything negative about Eli's ability to receive. Very soft hands, and calls a good game.
"We're very comfortable with him being able to get behind the plate here for two or three days, or whatever it has to be."
