After a two-minute, 25-second review, the call was overturned, and Mesoraco was called out.
With two outs in the Chicago ninth, Justin Ruggiano hit a fly ball to right that bounced back onto the field, and was ruled in play. The umpires on the field initiated a review, believing the ball might have cleared the basket that rims the top of the outfield wall for a home run. At the time, the Reds led, 4-1.
But after review, the call was confirmed, and Ruggiano had a double. He was stranded there as Aroldis Chapman struck out Mike Olt to end the game.
"It didn't go into the basket -- it must have hit the fence and come back," Renteria said of Ruggiano's ball. "It didn't clear."
