CINCINNATI -- Cubs' All-Star Starlin Castro came up short on a replay challenge in the eighth inning of Wednesday night's 4-1 loss to the Reds at Great American Ball Park.
With two outs in the Cubs' eighth and a runner at first, Castro hit a ball to Reds shortstop Zack Cozart, who threw to first baseman Brayan Pena. First-base umpire Mike Muchlinski called Castro out, but bench coach Brandon Hyde, subbing for manager Rick Renteria, who had been ejected in the fifth, went out to challenge the call.
After a 1-minute, 30-second review, the call stood and the inning was over.
