Royals at the plate: Billy Butler drew a walk in his first at-bat in the first and doubled in the fourth. Willie Bloomquist had two hits, both singles.Cubs at the plate: Geovany Soto hit an RBI single in the second, and the Cubs then loaded the bases and Ryan Theriot cleared them with a two-out double. Marlon Byrd had two hits.
Royals on the mound: Edgar Osuna, making his third spring appearance and first start, gave up four runs on four hits and one walk over three innings. John Parrish deftly fielded a hard-hit comebacker in the fifth and made the throw to first to end the fifth and strand two. Parrish struck out the side in the sixth.Cubs on the mound: Opening Day starter Carlos Zambrano became the first Cubs pitcher to go five innings this spring. He gave up three hits and struck out four. Worth noting: Cubs TV broadcaster Bob Brenly was at the game but strictly as a fan. His son, Michael, was one of the Minor Leaguers called up to the game. With a split-squad, the Cubs wanted an extra catcher. Michael batted .265 last season at Class A Peoria. Brenly batted in the eighth and flew out to center. Cactus League records: Cubs 11-6; Royals 7-7 Up next: On Sunday, the Royals will play host to the Rockies in Surprise. Gaby Hernandez is scheduled to start. It's the first of three straight home games. Zack Greinke, the reigning American League Cy Young winner, was to pitch at the team's Minor League facility.
On Sunday, Carlos Silva will make his fourth spring start when the Cubs travel to Goodyear to face the Reds. The right-hander has not given up a run in his last seven innings over two starts and says he's feeling much more comfortable with his sinker. Expect Kevin Millar to start in left field. The Cubs are trying to determine their bench and need to see where else he can play besides first.
