CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Blake Parker from Triple-A Iowa. Parker will serve as the club's 26th man for their game tonight against the San Francisco Giants at Wrigley Field.
Parker, 29, has no record and 23 saves with a 1.39 ERA (5 ER/32.1 IP) in 32 games for Iowa this season. He has limited the opponent to a .210 batting average, walked nine and struck out 45, good for an average of 12.5 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. His 23 saves lead all of Triple-A baseball.
The righthander is 1-1 with a 6.57 ERA (9 ER/12.1 IP) in nine big league outings this year. In parts of three major league seasons since making his debut with the Cubs in 2012, Parker is 2-3 with one save and a 3.76 ERA (27 ER/64.2 IP) in 65 relief appearances. He was 1-2 with one save and a 2.72 ERA (14 ER/46.1 IP) in 49 relief outings with the Cubs in 2013.
