Cubs select contract of OF Ryan Kalish

CHICAGO - The Chicago Cubs today selected the contract of outfielder Ryan Kalish from Triple-A Iowa and transferred outfielder Ryan Sweeney to the 60-day disabled list.

Kalish, who will wear uniform number 61, will be available for the Cubs tonight against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field.

The 26-year-old Kalish was a member of Chicago's Opening Day roster and batted .242 (22-for-91) with two doubles, three triples and 11 runs scored in 39 big league games before being optioned to Iowa on May 26. Kalish remained with Iowa through the rest of the Triple-A season and hit .251 (72-for-287) with 14 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 37 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 87 games.

Kalish was originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the ninth round of the 2006 Draft and made his big league debut in 2010. He signed a minor league contract with an invite to spring training with the Cubs last offseason after missing the 2013 campaign due to injury. In 128 big league games with the Red Sox (2010, 2012) and Cubs (2014), Kalish is a career .243 hitter (85-for-350) with four home runs and 33 RBI.
